Why and How Educators Teach 9/11
Teaching 9/11 provides a window into creative and probing approaches teachers have taken to introduce the subject of 9/11. Discussion of 9/11 is not a mandatory lesson in most classrooms across the country. However, many educators want to be sure their students learn about this pivotal event so they can participate in our world as knowledgeable and discerning citizens.
The teachers featured here emphasize why and how they weave 9/11 into their lessons. Despite the challenges in introducing a complex and emotional topic, these teachers have motivated their students to understand and feel the resonances of 9/11 in today’s world.
